Spatial Mosaics with Liliana Waisman

DATE: May 20, 21, and 22, 2017
TIME: 9AM - 6PM
LOCATION: 28 Donna Rd, Newton, MA
COST: $475.00 (3 full days)

Spatial Mosaic is a new concept and mosaic configuration that creates spaces defined only by the tiles and the joints. The mosaic structure is assembled, in its three-dimensionality, without the interposition of any other element. The mosaic thus created has no supports, it sustains itself, and it can deploy in different planes and levels. The mosaic changes with light and the observer’s movement, introducing ethereal three-dimensional configurations in the aesthetic of the mosaic world.
A PowerPoint presentation will launch the 3- day workshop by illustrating the technique and displaying pieces of art created with this innovative mosaic concept. The building of casts for resin will be demonstrated, as well as the process and formulas developed by Liliana Waisman, for the creation and implementation of this colorful, light, and inexpensive material, that can replace Smalti. Students will design and build a spatial piece under the professional guidance of the instructor.
This workshop is intended for intermediate to advanced mosaic artists. Number of students: Min 9, max 12. Materials fee: $85
